What to Expect

The idea behind White Walls Matter is to document the journey of building our first home and the “adventure” (read: mishaps & thrifting finds) that happens along the way.

I plan to feature:

  • Building process/progress
  • Design and decor ideas/inspiration
  • Ideas from our friends’ homes
  • Thrifting and Craigslist finds

Thanks for following along!

Kitchen Inspiration

In an era when all things stainless steel reign supreme, we are potentially taking a big risk by using gold hardware in our kitchen, but these pictures solidify how gorgeous it can look. Using clean, modern pieces creates an edgy, yet timeless look. Like the first picture, we hope to have gold hardware, black cupboards on the bottom, and white cupboards on top. Not pictured in this post, we will also have concrete counter tops, which you can see in my previous post, Designers to Follow.

Also, any takers on those dreamy, gold pendants in the third photo?  They are currently selling for $535.00 each – not quite within our budget!

Designers to Follow

I recently upgraded from a phone with 16GB of storage to 64GB. Since then, my instagram screenshots of design ideas have been a little out of control, but I’m not even mad.

The designers with the most screenshots in my phone right now are Sita Montgomery (@sitamontgomeryinteriors), Katie Kime (@Katie_Kime), Becki Owens (@Beckiowens), Shea McGee (@StudioMcGee), and Megan Papworth (@einteriors.design).

I’ve included a few that I’ve taken over the last year from each designer’s instagram, as well as a significant design detail that we will be including in our house. Click on a picture to view the designer and the design detail.

Living Room Inspiration

The color palette that we will be incorporating into the entire front room – living/dining/kitchen – will be mostly neutrals, including (but knowing me, not limited to) black, gold, green, brown, and, of course, white.

You will see a few blue tones in the pictures below, but using blue in decor scares me and makes me think of jean jumpers and old china sets.

About Me

I married my high school crush and love of my life in 2012. We will celebrate our fourth anniversary in June, but we have been best friends since 2005. In March of 2015, we began discussing the possibilities of building our first home, and I began exploring the world of floor plans and interior design.

My design style is a combination of modern, rustic, Scandinavian, and eclectic; inspired by interior designers such as Katie Kime, Jonathan Adler, Becki Owens, Kate Arends, Jeff Andrews, Sita Montgomery, Nate Berkus, and Danielle Oakey.

Many of my inspirations have also come from A New Wall Decor, One Kings Lane, Home Polish, Domino Mag, Wisteria, Houzz, Vogue Living, Dwell, My Domaine, deVOL, and West Elm.

Floor Plan

After searching [literally] thousands of floor plans, we designed a custom, 32×48, one-story, open-concept home.

A few easy decisions:

  • Long, open-concept
  • Master bathroom
  • Mud Room/Entry

A few tear-jerkers “discussions”:

  • Two or three bedrooms
  • Laundry on main floor or basement
  • Island or peninsula counter

We love what we have [finally] decided on, and we can’t wait to see these little white walls come to life! Click on the title, “White Walls Matter” to see more!
